Dr. Kubilay Varlı graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1977. He completed his specialty training in Neurology at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, in 1982. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in 1986, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1989, and became a full Professor in 1996.
In 1988, Dr. Varlı worked at the Rigshospitalet of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. In 1989, he furthered his expertise by working in the Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory at the University of Southampton's Wessex Neurology Center in England.
Dr. Varlı has published 59 studies in both national and international neurology journals and has presented 104 papers at domestic and international congresses. While his general neurology practice spans a wide scope, his primary interests lie in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular diseases.
From 1989 to 1996, Dr. Varlı held several administrative roles at Hacettepe University Hospitals, including Deputy Chief Physician, Chief Physician of the Adult Hospital, and General Director of Hospitals. In 2011, he briefly served as the Dean of Hacettepe University Kastamonu Faculty of Medicine from June to December.
He was the founding president of the Turkish Neurology Association and served as a board member for four years. He also served on the board of the Turkish Clinical Neurophysiology EEG-EMG Association for two years, including two years as its president. Additionally, he served as the president of both the Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine Alumni Association and the Hacettepe Faculty Members Association for two years each.
In March 2019, Dr. Varlı retired from his position at Hacettepe University at his own request. He currently practices as a freelance physician and is actively involved in various social responsibility projects.
