Prof. Birol BALABAN, MD, graduated from the GATA Faculty of Medicine as a Medical Doctor in 1992.
He successfully completed his specialization training in 2000, becoming a Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist. From 2000 to 2002, he served as the Chief of the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic at Erzincan Military Hospital.
Between 2002 and 2003, he completed advanced fellowship training at the Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic and Spine Center of the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, USA.
In 2004, he joined the GATA Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation as a Chief Assistant and faculty member.
In 2006, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor after successfully passing the Interuniversity Board Associate Professorship Examination.
In 2007, he earned the European Board Competency Certificate in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation after passing the required exam.
In 2011, following an evaluation by the Board of Medical Specialization, he was officially recognized as a Pain (Algology) Specialist.
He was appointed as a Professor in 2014. During his tenure at GATA, he served as the Chief of the Rehabilitation Center, Pediatric Rehabilitation and Acute Rehabilitation Clinics, and as the Medical Director of the Movement Analysis Laboratory. He later resigned from his position at GATA upon his own request.
Currently, Prof. Balaban is a faculty member at the European University of Lefke, where he continues his academic research. He also conducts clinical work at the Fizywell Pain and Rehabilitation Center, which he founded.
Prof. Balaban has authored numerous national and international articles, papers, and book chapters. He has been an invited speaker and trainer at various scientific congresses, conferences, and meetings.
