Psychiatry

The Psychiatry branch of the Flash Therapy team is represented by the esteemed expert Dr. Uğur YÜREGİR, who has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient treatment methods.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty focused on the human mind and mental health. Specialists in this field diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and addictions. Psychiatrists support patient recovery through psychotherapy, medication, and other therapeutic approaches.

Psychiatric evaluations are typically conducted using standard diagnostic tools, such as clinical examinations, interviews, and tests, to assess the patient’s symptoms and establish a diagnosis. Psychiatry adopts a comprehensive approach that integrates biological, psychological, and social factors, considering each of these in the patient’s recovery process. Treatment plans are tailored to the patient’s unique needs and circumstances, ensuring a personalized approach to care.

For spinal cord paralyzed patients, who make up our target population, psychiatry plays a crucial role. It identifies factors that could hinder rehabilitation, complicate the process, or reduce success rates, such as alcohol or substance addiction, drug withdrawal symptoms, active psychosis, severe depression, hypochondriasis, somatization disorder, untreated depression, or cognitive deficits. These conditions may impair the patient’s ability to understand the effectiveness of treatment and how to sustain it.

Additionally, psychiatry assesses whether the patient can commit to and complete a six-month physical therapy and rehabilitation program. It also ensures the patient does not harbor unrealistic expectations about the intervention and provides detailed information about its effects and potential side effects.
