Our team is represented by Prof. Kubilay VARLI, MD, a distinguished expert n the fields of neuromuscular diseases and electroneurophysiology for many years.
Neurology is a medical specialty dedicated to the study and treatment of nervous system disorders. This field addresses a variety of neurological conditions, including seizures (epilepsy), neuropathy, brain damage, multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke, and Guillain-Barré syndrome (transverse myelitis). These conditions may accompany the clinical state of spinal cord paralyzed patients, our primary target group, and can adversely affect their treatment process. Diagnoses and treatments in neurology are carried out using a range of diagnostic tools, such as neurological examinations, imaging techniques, and electrophysiological tests.
Neurological health issues can profoundly impact an individual’s daily functioning and overall quality of life. As such, the management and treatment of neurological diseases require a meticulous and patient-centered approach.
In the context of our work with spinal cord paralyzed patients, neurology plays a crucial role. This includes using appropriate electroneurophysiological tests to determine factors such as the integrity of at least some spinal column fibers, the impact of medications known to hinder motor recovery, the presence of a history of stem cell therapy, evidence of denervation (absence of muscle response), or autoimmune causes of spinal cord paralysis. Furthermore, neurology contributes significantly to the ultimate solution, such as identifying which muscles can enable the patient to take a step and determining how their motor nuclei in the spinal cord should be electrically stimulated for optimal results.
