Internal Medicine

In the internal medicine branch of the Flash Therapy team, we are privileged to benefit from the extensive clinical experience and expertise of the esteemed Hematologist Prof. Kadri YAMAÇ, MD.

Internal medicine is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of internal diseases. This field addresses common health issues in adult patients and aims to train well-rounded physicians with comprehensive medical education capable of managing a wide range of health conditions. The practice of internal medicine involves clinical examinations, laboratory tests, imaging techniques, and other diagnostic methods. Specialists in this field assess the general health status of patients, investigate specific findings, and establish diagnoses.

Internal medicine plays a critical role in managing and providing long-term care for chronic diseases. Specialists are also involved in treating acute illnesses and monitoring patients’ recovery. Additionally, they offer preventive healthcare measures, including guidance on healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition, and exercise programs.

For spinal cord paralyzed patients, who constitute our target group, internal medicine specialists contribute significantly by identifying conditions that could complicate the rehabilitation process or reduce the likelihood of success. These include uncontrolled diabetes, a history of cancer in remission and its ongoing treatment, immunodeficiency (a disease affecting the immune system), or coagulopathy (a condition disrupting blood clotting mechanisms). Furthermore, they play a key role in determining whether a patient can complete a six-month physical therapy and rehabilitation program or endure a three-hour surgical procedure in the prone position under general anesthesia.
