Cardiology

In the Cardiology branch of our team, we are honored to have Prof. Mehmet KORKMAZ, MD, a distinguished expert who has pioneered numerous innovations over his long and illustrious career.

Cardiology is a medical specialty dedicated to the study of heart and vascular diseases. It encompasses conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and rhythm disorders.

Cardiologists possess extensive medical knowledge and expertise to identify the underlying causes of heart diseases and develop appropriate treatment plans. They also create individualized strategies to protect heart health and enhance patients’ quality of life.

Cardiological evaluations and diagnostic procedures include methods such as electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, stress tests, and angiography. Cardiologists play a vital role in managing emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, and other critical conditions, focusing on both immediate interventions and the prevention of life-threatening situations.

For our target population, patients with spinal cord paralysis, cardiologists provide essential contributions. These include identifying the presence of cardiac or neural pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators, diagnosing life-threatening conditions like cardiopulmonary instability and autonomic dysreflexia, and determining whether patients are capable of completing a six-month physical therapy and rehabilitation program. Additionally, they assess whether patients can endure a three-hour surgical procedure in the prone position under general anesthesia.
